{"id":204,"date":"2010-03-24T14:41:34","date_gmt":"2010-03-24T18:41:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nhoralhealth.org\/?p=204"},"modified":"2010-03-24T15:32:21","modified_gmt":"2010-03-24T19:32:21","slug":"nh-house-of-representatives-passes-children%e2%80%99s-oral-health-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nhoralhealth.org\/blog\/2010\/03\/24\/nh-house-of-representatives-passes-children%e2%80%99s-oral-health-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"NH House of Representatives Pass Children\u2019s Oral Health Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>House Bill 1537, an act allowing primary care providers to provide dental disease prevention measures for children ages 0-3 enrolled in Medicaid , is passed by the NH House.<\/p>\n<p>The Government Accountability Office concluded that children in Medicaid had nearly twice the rate of untreated tooth decay as children with private insurance<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-five states, including <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">all the New England States with the exception of New Hampshire<\/span>, offer Medicaid reimbursement to primary-care medical providers who perform oral health screenings and\/or preventive services such as fluoride varnish applications on high to moderate risk young children.<\/p>\n<p>Reimbursing primary care providers for performing dental screenings and applying fluoride varnish on moderate to high risk is becoming \u201cbest practices\u201d for saving states money by instituting primary prevention strategies.<\/p>\n<p>This legislation has received broad bi-partisan support in the NH House of Representatives.\u00a0 Both Republicans and Democrats recognize the serious problem of dental disease in children.<\/p>\n<p>The NH Oral Health Coalition would like to extend a sincere thank you to the NH House of Representatives and its leadership for making children\u2019s oral health a priority.<\/p>\n<p>HB1537 will be scheduled for a public hearing in the NH Senate sometime in April.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about this bill, please <a href=\"http:\/\/nhoralhealth.org\/contact\">contact our office<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>House Bill 1537, an act allowing primary care providers to provide dental disease prevention measures for children ages 0-3 enrolled in Medicaid , is passed by the NH House.
